Some particularly choice quotes used to describe the behavior of foreigners in Korea:

"'Normal' people are hard to come by in this country, and I wondered: what evidence, albeit anecdotal, do I have to make such an assessment?"

"Luckily, most foreigners do not approach living in Korea in the ways I’ve illustrated. The problem: when you have a minority within a minority behaving in this fashion — impetuous, vulgar, insensitive, and even profane, it can color the entire group as being of that same mindset."

"Multiculturalism, racial acceptance, respect, and a more cosmopolitan atmosphere is a two-way street. Host countries have to give some, as well as foreigners. Sometimes, I feel Korea and Koreans are expected to do all the work in this regard with no reciprocity. I’m sorry, that’s not the way it works."

Is this writer legit or just another koreaboo?

We should respect him and his written pieces. After all, he is a 'professor'.

He's writing bad things about expats in Korea. Of course you can't take him seriously.

The fact that hes writing about "a minority within a minority" speaks volumes about the value of this writing.

Basically he says there are some bad apples in the foreign community, (groundbreaking news) and everything else is more or less about himself "I wrote X", and "I will write Y"

Dude really must be a professor at a Korean university or college by now, because he got some crap article that is essentially nothing (other than touting himself) published, and with what appears to be a 20 year old picture included to represent himself.

My first reaction is to be critical of his writing skills. At times it seems like he is criticizing foreigners in general and at other times only a minority of foreigners. I'm not sure he communicates a clear message.

Quote:
Unfortunately, foreigners, particularly of the Western country variety, haven’t upgraded very much in the time since last I wrote on expats behaving badly.

Quote:
Speaking in Korean proved far too worrisome a task.

So foreigners not being able to speak Korean is an example of foreigners behaving badly?

Quote:
“Squinty-eyed.” “Garlic-breath.”“Rice-pickers.”“These yellow demons.” “I don’t know how to speak Korean and I’ve lived here forever.”

I'd probably avoid quoting blog comments to prove my point no matter what I was writing about in a newspaper article.

Quote:
No, he wanted to be wanted simply because he was Western and white, and so necessarily a step above everyone else.

Interesting anecdote. Some Koreans probably feel the same way about themselves.

straight from the Thiessen, Shertzer, Huerr group, ugghhh

Wondering if this person is real, the writing almost sounds like a Thiessen (archeologist, ducky, etc) sock.

Not sure I'd want to attend an event where someone was telling me how to walk up a hill. In any language Laughing

Imagine the look of shock on the Koreans' faces when the waegooks turn up in jeans, trainers and a tshirt compared to the 1-2 million won worth of "hiking" gear that all of the Koreans would be wearing.

Rubbish article from this joker/fake prof.

Here's a lovely quote;

"He wanted to be wanted, not from some inner virtue he possessed, or because he had a great talent, or a superior intellect. No, he wanted to be wanted simply because he was Western and white, and so necessarily a step above everyone else."

Well done Mr. Blackman - you wrote this whole article, to yet again bash white people. Rolling Eyes

How utterly predictable and tiresome - not to mention complete fiction, on the part of the author. Embarassed

What's the aim of this dud prof? To score some brownie points with a few Koreans?

Pathetic. Evil or Very Mad

In the same article he wrote 'All societies have problems. I’ve written and will write on the social ills in Korean society'.

Has anyone ever seen any of his articles criticizing Korea?

I am somewhat conflicted here. On one hand, his words are a music to my and my apologist brothers' ears, but on the other hand, social ills in Korean society?

I am still uncertain if I should applaud this brave man for speaking out the Truth and invite him over to our apologist camp - first I would have to see his articles about the social ills in Korean society.

If his main criticism comprises of 'Korea is so great that it makes everyone else look bad' and/or 'Korean society has a major problem because it has no racism whatsoever', then my apologist brothers and I would be willing to overlook this and welcome him to our camp.

PS. If you'd like to join our apologist team (Seoul branch), please send applications to SteelRails. For Vancouver/Busan branch, please send applications to PatrickBusan.

Any clown can write drivel, but for the editorial department of a newspaper to pick it up and publish it says volumes about the Korea Times. But we can all see the trick here. They want to attack foreigners in Korea but want the words to come from the mouth of another foreigner. We've seen douchebags who've willingly participated in this xenophobic propaganda exercise before. Now they've found an African guy willing to attack white people for, among other things, racism. Now I've heard everything. A black guy in Korea complaining about racism, but of course not Korean racism against blacks - white racism against Koreans. Confused

What was Lenin's term for such people? Oh yeah, useless idiots. The most absurd part, however, is that this 'professor' will now add this article to his list of publications on his CV.

This place gets whackier by the day.
