I'm pretty sure I'm going to try and get invasilign treatment or something similar whilst I'm in Korea. I notice there are a lot of dental clinics that seem to market their practice to foreigners; English proficient staff etc. I'm just wondering if there are any significant price differentials between the dentists marketed to foreigners and the regular Korean dentists. Of course; English proficiency is important but it's my experience that most health professionals here at least have the basics of English so if I can save a lot of money by using a regular dental clinic, I will. Can anyone recommend s dental clinic? Thanks. |

The places that heavily market towards foreigners will be more expensive than normal places. Dentists that claim to have studied in the US, etc. |

That's exactly my point. I was assuming that would be the case. Anybody know of any decent clinics not targeted particularly at foreigners. |

Went to a dentist and I got a free cleaning and check up. No English though from the dentist however his cute assistant told me the results of the check up. |

Thanks. I'm looking to do invasilign though which is some major treatment. I guess I'll ask my co teacher to recommend a cheap decent place to go. |

I fell for the foreigner-friendly scam my first year here, and ended up having them mess up an old filling, do an inlay, then mess THAT up and have to do a crown. I've since switched to a clinic that is located in one of the better hospitals in my city, after a friend went with his family (his mom is Korean) and the dentist and hygienists were decent. I had a cleaning, x-rays, and check up for about 30k, and the extra fee was because I requested the panoramic x-rays, as I hadn't had a check up in a couple of years (I was scared, after the bad experience.) |

I paid over 100kw recently to have my teeth cleaned, xray 16000, and a checkup. I made the mistake of not asking the price before I went. Now I am debating going in to get my fillings replaced there, or finding another place. The fillings are only 100k. The place is nice and clean and they speak very good English. |

100k is about right for white fillings. You might not need as many fillings as they say, though. I'd go for a second opinion. |

I just had a double root canal. Total cost was just over a million. There are lots of dentists who speak English. They are highly educated people. As for the price, around a million is great. It would be double or triple in a western country. Also, in a western country, you are made to feel low and useless in the presence of the awe inspiring professional. Here, there is so much competition, it takes them down a notch.
BTW: Price was great. Post-operative pain wasn't. |

1 million seems a bit steep for a root canal. Are you on national health insurance? Most people that I know (Korean and foreigners alike) only paid about 400k for a root canal. Maybe another 300-400k for a chrome crown. And the people that I've asked about it went to good clinics, not those bargain clinics that college students and poor people go to. |

I think I paid 900K for a root canal with a white gold crown. The chrome would have been cheaper but a bit gaudy. This was a couple years ago. |

Another option is to take a dental vacation. Last February, my wife and I went to Manila (on the way to diving). I got a new crown (metal, but for a molar, so not visible) for $6,000 pesos or about $150.00 CDN. The work was well done, and took less than 3 days to complete. The dental office I went to was right inside the door at Robinsons Mall in Ermita. The crown feels great, and fits like a glove in my mouth. By Comparison, my dentist in Calgary wanted to do this crown. It would have cost $1450 of which my dental coverage would only pay $775. If I ever get a lot of work to do, it will be worth going from Canada to the Philippines to get it done. I imagine because Korea is cheaper this may not be so attractive, except the flights are also cheaper, and there are other things to do in the Philippines, like Scuba diving and such. Although, perhaps not now after the typhoon.

I was a double root canal. Two teeth. The cost included the treatment and the porcelain crowns. |

Wow! One million is expensive for Korea. I had to pay 7 or 8 thousand for a few visits for the work itself. The NHIC paid the rest. But, the crown was white ceramic (for appearances sake) and I had to pay that myself as it was considered cosmetic and it was 400,000 won. If I wanted a silver amargam filling, it would have been covered maybe. But is structurally weak long term and ugly to look at. |
