Along with the writer, I, too, was surprised to see China so high on the list. This is in direct contrast with another article posted to Dave's a while back that said it was getting harder for Chinese companies to find foreign talent due mostly to the air quality in top tier cities.

Personally, I'd like to work for an oil company or subsea engineering firm based in Singapore.

I don't think they are talking about English teachers.

Here's a list of most welcoming to visitors. I was surprised about America. I thought it was more like Canada would be.

So the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation said the best place to be an expatriate is China. Who would have guessed that.

Boring article. Nothing about Korea. And yes, I don't think this was aimed at twenty-something English teachers.

The map distorts the data. Look at the actual data from which the map was created.

How welcome are foreign visitors in your country? [1 = very unwelcome; 7 = very welcome]

So a score of 4 is neutral. The lowest scoring country Bolivia, still scored positively with 4.1.

China and Korea 5.5
The U.S. 6.0
Canada 6.6

The article wasn't written for 20 something English teachers because they aren't really "expats" in the first place. They are more in a gray area to migrant worker imo.

Despite having more quacks than a duck pond, Korea's health care system is so cheap and quick compared to the USA's it should be colored navy blue for American expats. The low taxes and public transportation are amazing too.

"Expats in East and Southeast Asia also tend to report that their social lives become much more active on moving there, due perhaps to the boost in disposable incomes as well as better weather and proximity to beaches."

No, it's the hot chicks.
