Hello! Can anyone offer me any tips for interviews? I've taught in Korea before, and I have my degree in education. But, I'm having a hard time getting a job. With my first school in Korea, I got the job directly through a friend who was already working there. So I'm realizing now I'm clearly doing something wrong. I've interviewed with three schools, and they've all given the jobs to someone else.
Can anyone give me some pointers? What are schools looking for in interviews?

Do you have an accent? What are your salary demands? Did you get a great reference from previous employer? What kind of questions have they asked you during the interview? What is your age/race/gender? All of these factors play a significant role in hogwons. But then again, if they have gone to the trouble to interview you, I suppose these things were already known in advance. I'm not sure what the problem could be, because there are hundreds of jobs available here. I'd like to help you secure a job.
You may NOT be doing anything wrong. Maybe they were going to hire you, but then found someone who was already here. Saving Korean won is the bottom line! If you can afford to fly here, you'd have a job in less than a day! |

Is it such a bad idea to verbalize the fact that you have friends there? Wouldn't it only be positive as it shows you have MORE reason to stay in Korea?
I was in Korea all last summer, visiting my girlfriend. Would it really be a bad idea to mention this? I would think that the fact that I have ties to Korea and have experience living there for any duration of time would be a plus.
About what you said about having a job in less than a day. Do you think it's really that easy to get a job by going to Korea first? I'd like to secure a position in Busan and I wouldn't be against flying to Korea on my own to find work.
