Just curious as to why there are limited camps this winter. In the past, it was always easy to find camps to work at for 2 or 3 weeks. |

Maybe because lots of public schools are having them. 10,000 won to attend.
Free labor from foreign teacher.
Just my two cents! |

This is why so many hagwons are losing students. SMOE is now requiring each school to give 100 hours of camps during the school vacations. (Is the foreigner paid extra for these 100 hours? Of course not. It is unpaid. Sucks for the foreigner. Rules for the Korean parents.) |

At my school, we decided that since the kids generally do not like trudging to school during sub-zero weather that we'd run our "winter camp" during the school year instead, and I know we are not the only ones doing it. It would not shock me if many public schools have made similar decisions.
Summer camps are fine, but winter camps are horrible, at least in the colder parts of the country. |

The govt never really gave up on their anti-hogwon campaign.
Although I don't understand then why they are reducing the number of foreigners at public schools.
Unless Korean parents have fallen for the propoganda that a KET is better than a weyguk. Can it really be?? |

Really? Last year, during the blizzard, ALL of my students showed up EARLY and tried to stay LATE. I was a little surprised. I thought for sure, some, AT LEAST ONE, would stay home. I even hinted that if it was TOO cold, maybe they should stay home ONE DAY and keep warm. Their response, "No, teacher, English camp, very fun.." Ugh! They made snowmen, went sledding down the school's hilly slope, made igloos, and had snowball fights ,before and after camp. |
