Hey forum. I'm interested in teaching English and (hopefully) saving some money before returning to school in September. However, I don't have much capital to invest in getting established there, and I really only have 8 months to work. Is this a realistic goal?

I'm coming from Canada btw, and mostly interested in Korea (Korean culture). However, if it's more likely to accomplish in another country, I would possibly consider it. Thanks.

ps: I have a BA, decent work and volunteer experience, and travel experience, if that helps.

You take a job and get your flight, accomodation and expenses paid for.

You then do a runner at month 8 or 9.

It's easy and people do it all the time.

Koreans are so desperate to learn English they offer things like that. Wink

Yeah, you won't find an 8 month contract... You'll end up having to break whatever contract you find, and pay for your own flight home. Meaning you probably won't save much (if anything) and you certainly won't get any references out of it.

I'd have to advise against it OP... but you're Canadian, eh? If you're male and you can work a sweat, get a general labour job up north. You'll save more, quicker, and without a contract.

Thanks for the replies guys. Too bad.

I considered going up north for work, but I can land a cushier job in Vancouver/Calgary for some decent pay. My friend's a safety officer/ex heavy mechanic, so he's pretty well connected with the camps.

Would have much rather taught in Korea. I need to save money though.
