My recruiter states that an adapter will change the plug shape but a converter must also be used. Does anybody know if the converter will work with a US hairdryer....I have to push the reset button every time I use it. It cost $100 and I don't want to buy a new one...but I don't want to blow this one up either....gracias

It's a total waste of time and money, IMHO, to bring the thing with you. Transformers that will handle something like that will jack up your electric bill, IME. Korea's not a backwater. They have all kinds of hair dryers and the benefit of getting one in Korea is that it's already wired for the local current.

Unfortunately the converter works with every other American product except hair dryers. Welcome to Korea.

Leave your hairdryer (and anything else that is NOT rated for 220VAC or dual voltage) at home.

If you bring it the cost of the voltage converter/transformer able to handle the wattage (750-1500w) will be more than the cost of a replacement hairdryer at your local e-mart or home-plus (this isn't some 3rd world, country).

If you plug your N.American hairdryer in directly you will just burn it up with the 220VAC power from the mains.
