Had lunch today at Indigos in HBC only to hear today is their last day in business (along with Orange Tree above it), talked to the owners and apparently the landlord is pushing them out likely to put in another burger joint or something that will attract more (just what we need) Korean hipsters to the area.
It was real institution in the area, a nice place to get a bite with a nice atmosphere and wonderful people who worked there, it will be missed by us long termers
yeah maybe its time to go home |

| Whoa. Indigos and Orange Tree have been there forever. I have so many fond memories there. My husband and I used to have dinner there all the time when we were first dating. This news makes me sad. Itaewon has changed so much in the past few years and now HBC has fallen to the epidemic. |

| Any idea on what Mike is going to do now? Those two places were probably my main favorites in that area. I loved going to Indigo for breakfast before going to church. |

WOW. That is awful. Easily my favorite restaurant in the area, been going a few times a week for years now. Great menu, nice people, the best sandwiches I've had in Seoul.
Bummer. |

| Yep, Haebangchon and Gyeongnidan are gonna see rents shoot up. I wonder if it'll be possible to run a place there. |

Orange Tree apparently has two more years on the lease so it is just Indigo that is closing.

Is the BLT from the bakery next to Magpies insufficient for your hangover cure needs? |

Good to hear about Orange Tree, heard from the people who ran indigo that Orange Tree was closing too, guess they were wrong.
No matter how you cut it a great little place got closed down by a short sighted owner, typical Korean though |

I got a brilliant idea, how about city hall build a new spacious high rise building and charge cheap rents to foriegner businessmen in it running shops or restaurants. This way Itaewon doesn't lose it's feel or even the reason that Koreans have been flocking there recently. I normally don't like government involvement, but this is one of thsoe rare exceptions. I mean really, who wants to get rid of good food only to replace it with a lame restaurant like Lotteria. There are already enough Olive Youngs and Gim Bap Naras everywhere else. Itaewon doesn't need them too. Geeze. Common sense here people.
If you live in Seoul or this area, suggest it to your Korean friends and have them suggest it to their politicians. After all, this is why Koreans have flocked to the place. Not to have it be another Korean neighborhood. |

I'm actually kind of surprised by the comments here re. Indigo. IMO (and the opinion of others I know) the quality of the food went down a lot over the past few years (as well as the service). I stopped going about a year ago when I was served frozen lasagna, and my sandwich had about three fries with it. It's also been pretty empty whenever I've walked by (whereas you used to have to wait for tables). Maybe they weren't "pushed out." Maybe they just couldn't afford the lease.
As for the OT, I was there on Saturday and it seemed to be business as usual (and Mike gave absolutely no indication that it was closing on Sunday). | |
