|
|
I was hired to teach English in an institute that had a compulsory one-week training course. Before beginning the training course, I signed a contract and I had to submit to my director my police check, notarised diploma and other documents. Soon after, I was given my visa issuance number.
I ended up failing the course and as a result cannot work at the institute. I would like to look for other work in Korea but I have two questions:
(1) Am I required to leave Korea within 14 days as a result of losing my job? I DON'T have the visa stamp in my passport, but I was issued an E-2 visa number.
(2) Do I need a Letter of Release to get another job? Do I have to re-apply for, and re-submit my documents?
Any replies will be much appreciated. |

Looks like a crunch time issue. Find a hagwon, transfer as fast as you can. You need to get an E2 or shoot for the D10. |

And this is why you never sign hagwons that have required "training" courses |

Another "teacher" screwed by CDI.
(1) If you have an E2 in your passport you either need:
a) a LOR from CDI or
b) pick a new country for the next year (how does China look to you?).
You will have 14 days to report the loss of employment and 30 days to leave the country.
(2) If you do not have an E2 in your passport (still on a tourist stamp) then your documents are gone and you will need to wait 90 days to find a new job and get a new visa confirmation number.
You do NOT have to leave Korea until your tourist stamp expires. It is also illegal (but often done) to work on a tourist stamp.
