That's the first job I was ever offered in Korea. I turned it down after being advised against working in kindergartens.
I've seen them post ads for jobs frequently over the past 2 years which sends up a big red flag. But who knows?
You should bump this thread until you get some responses. I'm sure somebody on Dave's has worked for them or knows somebody who has.
I'm curious about them. |

I worked for DaYeLin in Suji for one year 2006-2007. Since I've gone, I know that the assistant principal (aka your boss) has changed.
My experience at DaYeLin was overall very positive. I don't have a lot of time but I'll give the main pros/cons:
Pros:
-Very very little prep work
-Show up, teach, leave
-Some flexibility in lesson plans day-to-day
-Principal and korean teachers were all very nice and helped you out when you needed it
-Paid promptly, in full + insurance, pension, etc.
-Full flexibility in afternoon elementary lesson planning
Cons:
-Vacation happens when they say so (1 week X-mas; 1 week July)
-Sick days are nigh impossible to take as they only have 4-6 ESL teachers and no backups
-Afternoon kindy is akin to babysitting
-You're sometimes not trusted to do your job well and they come in and watch you in class
-You're strongly encouraged to work 2-3 Saturdays per year (for me, 2 plays and 1 "open class" - you just watch the plays and it was actually really great. The open class was a show for a parents and pretty much a joke).
Hope that helps. |

Another big positive: I was able to negotiate everything. I received a contract similar to the one posted elsewhere here on Dave's. However I was able to negotiate:
From 2.2 to 2.4
From 700K for plane ticket to full reimbursement (1/2 day 0, 1/2 day 365)
From no pay for visa run to paid ticket to Japan.
I ended up working 9-3:30 everyday. Some days I had a 90 minute break. |

I would pass on this school. I really did my research and thought I had found a good place. They brought me over (I paid airfare...I know, my mistake) and were going to have me work at two schools they owned. One turned out to be a public kindy (illegal, but I was lead to believe it was just another hagwon on my side.) and two days before my contract starts they tell me sorry, no job because they just found out it was illegal. They didn't pay me my flight money either. Now, I will give them this. They did let me stay for free at the apartment until I found a new job. They checked on me and offered to help. None the less it wasn't a good situation. I stil stay in touch with some of the teachers there and they work longer than they are contracted with saturdays fairly regularly. Now this is just what they tell me, they did tell you about the saturdays up front...and they were field trips as far as I know. So, this school screwed me big, but didn't leave me totally high and dry. I just thought I'd let anyone know if they were going to work there. |
