I'm addicted to Dave's ESL Cafe. Although I've tried many times to quit, I can't. Has anyone else had this problem? I think Dave's is somewhat educational, and a better use of time than other things I can think of BUT it is not the absolute best use of my time. Life is short. It goes by quickly. To be successful in life, it is important to focus all of one's time and energy on just one thing. I should be studying Korean now, not posting on Dave's. >_<
(I think I should set a quit date and stick to that. January 1st, 2014? @_@) |

Are you addicted to Dave's or are you addicted to the interaction you get from arguing? |

I don't like arguing for the sake of arguing. (That is stupid in my opinion.) I like to learn and share new information. This is a discussion board. Discussion can be good I think. (Unfortunately, some people on here make inane comments. Try not to be that person, Ginormousaurus. Instead of writing insults, as you do in so many threads, try to say something meaningful/interesting/insightful. That is your new goal, old man.) |

Quit the forum to study Korean? Just study Korean while on the forum. Many of my posts here are written while I am studying. Read a few pages, glance at the forum, then read some more. Breaking it up a bit like that makes it stick a bit better I think. |

Did my comment insult you? It wasn't intended as such. It should be common knowledge to you of all people that you, World Traveler, argue with people here on a daily basis.
I really meant what I said. Are you addicted to the interaction you get from other people here? You've never said anything about having a gf or bf or any other intimate associates. Maybe you're addicted to the sense of association you get from being one of the drivers of this forum. Because, to be honest, that month you were away was a dry month. You cause a lot of argument and provide some entertainment to people like myself who don't post all that much, but read everything. |

Not anymore. There aren't as many vapid fight pickers as before polluting this site, thank God.
It's OK to disagree. Just be interesting/relevant to everyone, civil, and articulate your position. That is my advice to everyone.
I should add too I think this board is getting better (in terms of the reduction of personal attacks). So thanks everyone.

I really didn't mean any offence. I may disagree with a lot of things you say, but I give you credit for backing up your views with facts and links thereto. Many posters don't do that. I don't engage in arguments here though, and you and I have never had much of an exchange.
Adding to that, I'm sure the two of us could pass a lot of time enjoying the greener things of life while expounding on our experiences and beliefs. |
Anyone with an LSD avatar is cool in my book. ^__^ |

I haven't been addicted to many things in my life but here is my advice. Fill that void with someone less harmful and repeat.
For example.
Cig's
Mint Snus
Gum |

I find that this place is so dead nowadays that it would only take a few minutes to read all the new posts per day. |

You want to quit? Make some derogatory comment against the mods or violate the TOS repeatedly.
They;ll ban you and your problem is solved.
All you do is spread misinformation anyway. You are such a Debbie Downer and frankly a troll.
This forum will go on with quality posters such as myself giving correct information. |

Thanks for the laugh. You are such a Debbie Downer about China, Creeper1. From now on, let's here some positive things about the place to give people a reason to move there. That can be your New Years resolution for 2014. |

Is this even true? IT would be one boring life to focus only on one thing and not have other interests. We only live once, people should experience and master many different things in their lifetime. |

Yes. There is a Korean proverb 우물을 파도 한 우물을 파라 which means dig one well only. (It is better to have one sharp blade than many dull blades.) If you try to master many things, you will be mediocre at many things and a master of none. Focusing on just one thing is boring and tedious at first perhaps, but that is the way to become successful. Plus, once you get really good at that one thing, it will be enjoyable and satisfying to do. I wish I could have learned this lesson earlier in life. I am still kicking myself for not being laser sharp focused on one thing in my youth. |
