I went to the Peruvian restaurant "Cusco" at Hapjeong station today. The Papa Rellena was really good (albeit it seemed somewhat pre-made), but my lord, the Quesadilla was awful, just terrible. It was a regular tortilla with nothing but some bland mushrooms and ton of some sort of white cheese melted inside, with dots of ketchup and mayonnaise on top.
The worst part about it was the "nachos" it came with, which was just regular Tostitos nacho chips with melted American Cheese on top. Apparently making salsa was too much effort. Also, the "nachos" looked like they had been made during the lunch service (it was 5:00) and had a nice skin on the "cheese", and some of the nachos appeared to have coalesced with the chips and become some sort of hard, bubbly mass. Also, the food cold as hell.
Oh, and they played Mexican music for some reason.
Oh, and the Cuba Libre we ordered with our food was pretty terrible too, tasted like just Coca Cola and ice.
Avoid that place.

Thanks for the warning.
If we see "5 star" recommendations from expat food bloggers then we'll know they're full of it, as usual. |

It's not a new establishment. I ate at that place over two years ago and the food was nasty shit. I lived right right down the street from there for a month and there was never anyone inside, surprised it's still open. Add Peru to the list of countries korea has taken a culinary idea from, then proceeded to take a greasy dump on. |

Been there since at least 2003. It's attached to a Peru-centric travel agency. I lived next door back in the day and always found its existence bizarre. There was nothing in Hapjeong then. Ah the old days. |

Wow. How does that place still exist?
On another note, posters on here were raving about how great this all-you-can eat Brazilian steak joint was years back and I tried it out and it was absolute shit. Chiaroscuro or something like that. |

Title should say "was awful", not sure why it got cut off.
Those Brazillian steak places are all a rip-off. No one can eat 30,000 worth of meat at one time unless they've starved themselves for two days and don't eat any other side dishes. The steak isn't bad, per se, but it's at least 10,000 too much. I won't go to those places anymore. |

Good to read that restaurant review, I was curious about that place. Any recommendations for good restaurants in Hapjeong? I knew of an Italian there that was decent, but the last time I went I found that the building was being redeveloped. |

What do quesadillas, nachos and salsa have to do with peruvian food? |

The ony Peruvian place that was descent was near Camp Casey. I went to a buffet one near Osan air base and if you didnt get there early, you didnt get much. They didnt cook more for anybody arriving. Big waste of money. |

I was talking to a foodie friend and he had a great point: Mexican food seems to be the only South American cuisine popular internationally. There's a reason Peruvian restaurants aren't ubiquitous. |

I respectfully disagree. As an athletic 90 kg male and a practitioner of IF (Intermittent Fasting*), I get my money's worth- and then some!- at those Brazilian places. My favourite is Tabom, followed by Copacabana.
* If you don't know what IFing is, Google "LeanGains" and read a few things under "Most Popular" at the top of the page |

Peruvian cuisine is reckoned to be one of the great cuisines of the world. Your foodie friend needs to step up. |

Last time I looked at a map, Mexico was Central, not South America.
And usually, the food is more of a Tex-Mex twist than actual authentic Mexican food. |

Pretty sure Mexico is considered part of North America--NAFTA and all that. |
