I've read and was told that any school, whether its public or hogwon, must provide 50% of the premium for national health insurance for its employees.
Is this true? that its the law? would any one have a like to the particular legislation? |

Umm it depends on if you are a contractor or employee. Yes all registered workers and many Koreans need to be on NHIC. As to who pays is up to contract and law.
Have you consider checking the NHIC website. There is a nice English side to it.
http://www.nhic.or.kr/
Or search the multitude of posts on ESL cafe on this. hint use the words site:forums.eslcafe.com/korea {WORDS} in google no brackets.
A note is the pension and NHIC are linked. You get one you get the other. |

Some exceptions exist, though I don't know the details well. I have pension but do not have NHIC. When I came here, I submitted an exemption request to NHIC with proof of overseas health coverage, which was accepted. |

And I'm the reverse. I've had NHIC for a year now, but I don't have pension. |

Unless you are South African. Then some thing is going wrong or slow. Do not be surprised if in the future the NPS comes a collecting for back payments. |

I'm American and I've been practically begging the NPS to collect for back payments, but they won't. They just want me to go away, leave them alone, and stop calling. |

That's really odd. I've never known of a government office that DIDN'T want to collect it's slice of the pie. Did you go in person to fill out a report that your boss isn't paying into it? What city is this happening in? |

I filled out the paperwork at an office near Yatap station nearly a year ago, but they were snickering and giggling. I should've known right then that nothing productive was ever going to come of it. They also told me the same thing the people on the phone tell me...that I need to talk to my former boss about it. |
