I just accepted a position with a school in Geoje Island. I have searched Dave's and found a few discussions on Geoje that pretty much say it's a small place without any night life, but that does not bother me in the least. I am going over there to work, not party! Anyway, everything I saw was a few years old and was wondering if there is anyone here who happens to be living there now or has left the island sometime in the recent past who can comment on life on the island. I know they recently put in the Busan-Geoje fixed link so that has probably changed the dynamic of the island a bit.

Thanks for your commentary!

I recently moved away from Geoje (was there 2 years) - and miss it dearly.
There is the Geoje teachers group on Facebook, which are a pretty good bunch of people. There is plenty to do at night, either in Geoje 'city' itself, or in Okpo city (which is around 10 mins away by taxi).
There are bars a plenty, gyms, a football team, trivia nights - and plenty of get together's, trips to the local multitude of beaches, festivals etc.

With Samsung Heavy Industries and Daewoo in Okpo, there are a ton of foreigners there of various ages.

You'll love the place. It's not isolated in any way.
Enjoy!

I second the Geoje Teacher Group on Facebook. The teachers are very helpful and can give you insight on your school.

There are many schools on the island, so our group of teachers is fairly large. Night life is hit and miss but Busan is an hour by bus. There are many foreigners on the island and there are many group activities (more so in the spring and summer).
