My plan was to leave my 5 pound chihuahua in the US for the year I will be teaching for EPIK. The family member who was to watch the dog has had a change of circumstance and can no longer care for the dog.

Anyone have any information about bringing a dog and working for EPIK?

Thank you,

BW

Did you read your sample EPIK contract?

It clearly states that NO PETS are allowed to live in the house.

You may well be able to skirt this rule, once settled in Korea ect - but if you are planning on bringing your dog to orientation ect, expect to be fired before you even set foot in your apt!

I think EPIK has a check list of things that you agree to now before you sign the contract. So you cannot claim ignorance of the rules!

I haven't received my contract yet, if I had and it said that I wouldn't ask the question.

Maybe put it up for adoption in the US. I know that would be a painful thing to do, but bringing it to Korea would be stressful for it too.

Korean apt's are not the best places for dogs either.

It is possible to rent your own place here, and find a place that allows dogs. It's more difficult, especially for a new teacher, however. You could have your dog sent later, once you're settled, but there are some tests required, and they take a few months, so you'd want to get started now.

First off, do not listen to a word Lucas says. Secondly, as I recall, the statement of no pets is not in the EPIK contract but in one of the supplementary forms you have to fill out and sign. Just leave that spot blank so you do not lie.

It is okay to have your dog in Korea, it does not get stressed that much.

Your problem will be orientation and I would suggest finding a good pet hotel if you have to endure that requirement.

Having a dog here is a big plus and you will encounter many problems as Korea is not totally dog friendly but those problems can be overcome with a little planning and flexibility.

Thank you so much!

Check on the regulations for importing your dog. Make sure all the paperwork is filled out correctly and make sure your daughter knows what to do. Rabies shots at least 30 days in advance is required and a health certificate is another.

Also, since it is a little dog, and if it isn't too expensive, try to book the dog to be in the cabin with you or your daughter.

That is the best way as cargo or animal containers on planes are not 100% safe or secure,.

You are going to be spending a lot of money- and you better hope your dog finds a Korean home forever- to get the dog back to the west is going to be a lot of cash too. So, it may be cheaper to stay in korea for a good dog lifetime.

Your daughter? Don't let her go to any bath houses by herself. We had an older woman like yourself that lost a son to murder in a bathouse a few years ago.

And don't forget about that other lady whose tiny dog was eaten by an elderly Korean couple in a park.

Sounds like a plan Rolling Eyes

Why not smuggle her on the plane too?

The people in this group will help you to find out what tests you'll need, and the time frame (some tests require a few months).

You probably weren't in-country when Michael White was murdered in a Korean bath house. The kid was 14 I think. Just be careful Beth.
