It's not a district. Just a neighborhood. But if you've not been there yet have any interest in Eastern Europe or Central Asia, check it out! Walking out Dongdaemun History & Culture Park station exit 7 (동대문역사문화공원역 7번 출구) puts you pretty much in the midst. I got some delicious, fresh rye bread from one nearby shop, and from another I found a variety of Baltika beers (including their strong no. 9 and no. 6 porter) for 3,500 for a 500 mil. Not bad! The bread wasn't cheap, but it was well worth it!

Some great restaurants, too.

Cool, thanks for the link. Actually, the restaurant my GF and I ate at was not very good, or at least what we ordered was not very fresh or interesting, and the customer service was poor (not that we expected much in that regard). But I'm still curious. I'll definitely be returning to the shop I mentioned for the bread.

Yeah, back when I still lived in Korea, I occasionally went there with an Uzbek friend of mine. No doubt, next time I visit Korea, he and I will probably go there for dinner and some drinks.

Russians are known for surly customer service, especially towards Americans.

Makes sense. I don't think they were Russian, however. Or at least ethnically they were Central Asian.

The one Russian I dealt with (at the shop where I got the beers) was actually pretty respectful and spoke to me in English. I've once had a Russian woman in Korea speak to me in Russian, thinking I might be, but this guy could tell I wasn't before I said anything.
