Get what you can, of course, but in my experience, extending 6 months or less = no raise, more than 6 months = raise possible, but not terribly likely.
Generally, a raise is something employers give to make an employee want to stick around, and if the employer knows you ain't sticking around, why give the raise?
An alternate view is that the employer is saving money by not needing to train you the second year, so they are passing some of that extra money along to you -- but since you are leaving, the school WILL be needing to train someone else to replace you, so why give you the extra money and then train someone else anyway?
Get what you can, of course, but the logical reasons for a raise really don't apply if you are only extending a few months. |
