I'm curious if people posting here ever feel lonely at the Christmas and New Years time of year here or of it is just water of a duck's back; not meaning anything to them.

As for myself, I don't care one way or the other as long as I have good food to eat, booze to drink and some good music to listen to, which is very easy with the advent of internet radio.

Otherwise, I don't need the traditions, the lights, trees or gift-giving. In fact, I detest it.

So how do you feel about the holiday season?

I've been watching college football bowl games every night and morning with my old man on Skype. This is the least lonely time of year for me...not that I get lonely. I'm a loner.

Interesting. Yeah, it may even be the best time of year for certain people. I agree.

I dont know about anyone else, but I have lost a total sense of holiday's spirit not being back home. Christmas/Thanksgiving/New Years--just another day to me....and I hate it.

Just my opinion, but I don't think it's emotionally healthy or ethical to not care about your family members or care about being in contact with them. Do you guys not have family (they all died?), or are you estranged from them?

Did you ever hear the one about the guy with some smokin' hot girlfriends and too much cash?

Its not the holiday season for everyone here, at least not religiously. So no.

But I also keep good contact with everyone anyway.

I think this is what has happened to me over many years of living outside my home country and being away from family and old friends.

It simply does not mean anything to me anymore - I mean the lights, Christmas, gift giving, sentimentality, etc. I have no feeling for it at all. And I like it!

I mean, I hear it in Starbucks and see it when I go in for a coffee and catch myself and ask, ''Do you really care about any of this?" Instead, I find it repels me.

It's another non-event made into a big deal by corporations and the media.

Although I did get a nice long break from work, which I really did enjoy.
