Has anybody been to Tsushima? The good, the bad? I was wondering about cheap places to stay, and good places to see. I plan to ride my bike around the island for a couple days.

Yup, some friends and I went there when we couldn't get a ferry to Fukuoka a few years back. It was ... rather dull, to be honest, we were looking to have a good time and it was a pretty quiet fishermen's village. If you're into hiking/biking, tho, you could have fun. We had no trouble finding reasonably priced accommodation and restaurants (reasonable for Japan, anyway). The islanders were also pretty nice, too, buying us drinks and stuff. But we were probably the youngest people on the island by far (early 20s at the time).

I went about 4 years ago for a long weekend and really enjoyed it.

As the previous poster said, it's very low-key, but it's great for coastal and rural scenery. I rode from the south port (Izuhara) to the north port (Hitakatsu) and a bit around the north. I'm thinking about going again this year.

I'd highly recommend making sure the weather looks okay, and delaying if it doesn't, because I don't think it'd be nearly as enjoyable in the rain.

I visited this year. Not much to do there, quite small and actually rather boring. I'd recommend some of S. Korea's islands, instead. like Jeju-do or Geoje-do (unless you're objective is to get a passport stamp to extend your stay in S. Korea, then I'd suggest the ferry over to Fukuoka).

Note: be prepared for extra screening as you pass through Immigration at the Tsushima terminal. I noticed the few "western looking" people on my trip that were in line were questioned extensively, had their items searched, received a full body pat-down and were questioned again outside the terminal by a local policeman (I'm curious why Immigration at this terminal is so strict with westerners).
