'I've made a huge mistake'

So I priority MAILED my CBC to the Dulles, VA address for the apostille. Only because I thought it'd be more convenient than traveling to DC... HA.

Well I have a job on the line, and I am terrified that I won't receive it in time (I have called the office number and was told that since my name isn't in their system, and although the tracking number says it did arrive, it's in a 'secret' place being screened... basically an hour of being on hold for nothing... definitely planning on calling everyday till it shows up).

I've Googled the cuss out of this issue, and it seems that for some people it took 2 months to get it back, others 1 week, others 5 days...

Did you mail your CBC to the authentications office?
How long till you got it back?

Thanks!

(p.s. If you are considering for yourself, just go to DC if possible or use a courier! Really. Not worth the anxiety!)
(p.s.s. Say a prayer for a sista)[/i]

So, this won't really answer your question fully since I haven't received my apostilled cbc yet, but here's my timeline so far:

-FedEx delivered my document/app/prepaid FedEx envelope on 01/09

-Office of Authentications system shows as 'received' yesterday, 01/14, so 3 business days from delivery.

-Today, the operator said the turnaround would be 3-5 business days from the day they received it. However, I realized that we have a federal holiday in the middle of that so, in this case, the *total* time before I receive my apostilled document might be a little longer than usual.

Side note: In case anyone else does this- I forgot to write down my FedEx return tracking number on the application but noted it would be FedEx and the operator said it was fine, not a problem at all.

The lady I spoke to sounded so tired but very kind- they must be terribly busy there.

Oh man... I'm going through this now too, from New Hampshire. The website clearly says it takes 3-5 business days to process and says NOTHING about it taking any longer in any circumstance (federal holidays, backed up, etc.). What the original poster said about it sometimes taking TWO MONTHS really has me worried.

I should have gotten mine by now. But I haven't. Call them every night and it's expensive and I am put on hold for thirty minutes before I give up.

To the second poster... you mentioned you were able to confirm that your document ARRIVED there, right (you mentioned the Office of Authentications "system")? How did you do that?? Is there a way to check on their website, or did you actually have to speak to someone at that office??

"Plan ahead. The average processing time for mail-in requests is approximately five to seven business days from the date of receipt by the Office of Authentications."

I'd still use a courier since I knew one person that was still waiting after two months to get her CBC back.

Mail that is sent to federal government agencies is often screened for toxins like like ricin and anthrax. It's one way they protect themselves against terrorists.

Yes- I called the number on the website (I'll copy below) and had to speak to someone:

"Status inquiries and questions governing the Authentication process
Phone: 202-485-8000

Monday - Friday (except federal holidays)
9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. EST"

I was on hold for 20, 30, 40? minutes (I lost track of time and just kept doing some other work while I waited). Somewhere in the beginning of the phone message while I waited, it mentioned again that they were closed during federal holidays.

So the lady I spoke to pulled it up on her computer and it showed my document as being officially 'received' and entered into their system 4 business days after it was actually delivered. I used FedEx so was able to see when it was signed for. =)
