Is it too difficult to get Intercity Express Bus tickets during Seolnal? How long before Seolnal should I book a ticket if I need to go from Seoul to Gwangju or vice versa? If it is necessary to book a ticket, how can I do it? I would prefer travelling by bus, but if bus is too inconvenient during Seolnal, I would like to explore the train option as well (air travel is not an option at the moment) |

I'm not familiar with Seolnal. However during big holidays try to buy the ticket as early as possible. Find out if you can buy it as early as the day before or days before your departure. If not arrive at the bus station very very early in the morning, early enough to beat the line. Make sure you buy the return ticket early in the day also. You have to do the same for trains. If you arrive a few hours before departure don't expect a seat on a train. You will be standing on the slowest train available if you're lucky (the slow trains are not that slow actually). For buses there is no standing on the bus if you buy the ticket from a large bus station. |

If you have a basic command of Korean AND have a debit/credit card tied to your ARC number, then it is the simplest to do it online.
https://www.hticket.co.kr is for departures from Seoul Express Bus Terminal (Honam Line, a.k.a. 'Central City') or from Dong-Seoul Bus Terminal.
http://www.kobus.co.kr is for departures from Seoul Exp. Bus Terminal (Gyeongbu Line) and from Gwangju.
On the date of your travel, you bring the very card you used in reservation and collect your ticket from a ticketing machine or from a ticket booth.
Such parallel reservation systems exist due to contractual issues, as tickets are sold and accounted for by each departure terminal, not by route operators. |
