Does anyone know where I can buy some industrial strength adhesive?
My students have been using a chair to do dunks on a basketball goal during breaks. Today, I was playing with a student and figured I'd make him laugh by throwing one down, and I broke the backboard.
I went and told my boss that I need to buy her a new goal, but she told me to not worry about it. I insisted a couple of other times during the day, but she kept telling me to not worry, that she's going to tape it back. I'm sure tape isn't going to work by itself, but I think there's a 50-50 chance an industrial strength glue could work, in tandem with some heavy duty tape to brace it.
I feel upset and disappointed about the whole incident, especially since I hate it when people disrespect or break my property and know how it feels. I'm as disappointed at myself as the guy at the 0:40 mark in this video was at Darryl "Chocolate Thunder" Dawkins. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lszr5JGNA7o
I really want to buy a new goal, but if she wants it repaired instead, I really need to find the strongest glue possible. Please help, ttompatz or anyone. |

Any local hardware store would have it. Then the department stores have some but I doubt in the size of container you want.
It may be easier to just buy a new backboard. |

gorilla glue is not that strong. there is a form of gorilla glue called gorilla SUPER glue however that might fit what you need.
basically for your application cyanoacrylate, commonly known as "super glue" is the best (gorilla SUPER glue falls into this category). if you are working with metal a metal epoxy would be ideal but it sounds like you are not. the only issue with cyanoacrylates are they tend to be brittle with low shear value so if you are putting stress on a "fixed" part in all coplanar direction to the bond then there's a chance it will break again.
just a tip: when using cyanoacrylate glues which are actually a resin and not a true water-based glue, put a very thin layer of water on where you want to make the bond because water is the catalyst for the bond and it will not bond without the presence of water (thus why it bonds so quickly to human skin). |
