Hi everyone, sorry if this has been done to death but I could really do with some advice.
I am an Irish citizen and can enter South Korea for 3 months without a visa. I am just wondering are there any restrictions that would stop me from coming to Korea, acclimatising or a week or 2 and then beginning to conduct interviews in person?
The normal way to get a teaching job is to organise everything In ireland before you fly, but i think that going over before hand would make the entire process less daunting.
I understand that if a school likes you then going to Japan to get the visa isn't an issue as long as you have all the documents.
Thank you very much for any feedback. |

If you have all of the documents ready then come on over. You'll actually get better results searching here in person than by doing it from abroad. More places will give you and offer if you can come for an interview. You can also check out the places before accepting an offer. In general it should take you about 2 weeks to start getting job offers and within 3 or 4 you should have a few good offers worth accepting.
If the employer submits your documents for a visa issuance number right away, it will take 1 or 2 weeks to get it. Then you hop over to Japan for 2 days and you've got the visa and can legally work as soon as your get back to Korea.
The only draw back is that you might not get reimbursed for the flight from Ireland. In that case your visa run to Japan (flight and hotel) will be covered. Alternatively, ask for a slight pay increase to compensate for the lack of a flight here. |

Thank you so so much for the information.
One more thing, as an Irish citizen I don't need a visa to enter Korea, but would I need to get a visa to enter Japan once I am in Korea?
Once again thank you for your post |

As someone from Ireland, you can enter Japan for 90 days without a visa.
I would also offer some suggestions. Why not have a vacation first. That is, come to Korea for a couple of weeks. Feel yourself around. May be even go for some interviews at some schools/hagwons. Then go to Tokyo then on to Bangkok and go back home. If you are able to have lined up a job while in Korea you can do all immigration processes back home. And then they will fly you back to Korea.
I don't know if you have traveled through Asia but this is a good way to test your feet first. If you can afford it have some fun first. Feel what it is like. Line up some interviews and if you are certain that Korea is your choice get them to fly you back over.
Good luck! |
