My application is being reviewed by a chain of Hagwons called Feinschule and I was wondering if anyone had some information on them. The only thing I know is that they mainly work with children (kindergarten to third grade or so) and that the specific school I'm being reviewed for is in Suwon.
Thanks. |

I went to an interview at Feinschule's branch in Yongtown, Suwon in Summer of 2004 because a poster at Dave's named Ralph had worked there and claimed it was a good hogwon. I got the job after teaching a whole day's worth of classes. (I was told that I'd be paid for the day). The next day, I was told that I was not going to get the gig and any money for teaching as they'd found a younger teacher. The woman who told me the news said that what the hoggie did to me was "Korean way." Maybe that institute is different now. It was in a new area of Suwon and Suwon Station was only 13 or 14 mins away by foot from the school. |

Given what the above poster said, avoid this hogwan. What they did sounds like something that would be done to somebody in Thailand. |

Two posters on Dave's named Ralph? What are the odds? |

The chain isn't bad it just depends on the local boss running the school. The curriculum will leave you coming up with extra stuff to do on your own. Their main focus is on kindergarten students with some books geared to 1st year to 3rd year elementary students. I was teaching about 8 to 9 30 minute classes a day though with no break between classes. You will be required to attend a tri-monthly unpaid meeting on a Saturday. You have to meet up with all the other Feinschule teachers from all over Korea. The meeting is pretty useless though if you have already been to one, because it's the same thing over and over. |

That's unfortunate, sorry to hear about this experience. I'll definitely keep this in mind as other opportunities begin opening up. Thanks for the response |

This is is pretty much what most of my research is telling me, that in most cases it's going to depend on the individual school rather than the chain.
Your description of the meetings seem like a drag and waste of time but are really the least of my worries with respect to the essays of other things I've been told to look out for with Hagwons. Still, it's a good bit of information to have. Thanks for the insight |

Now...think about which country started Kindergarten and put it together. Thus leading to the clever name. Nice try - |
