|
|
| Hello, I recently received a contract offer from the Canadian International School in Seocho. I've tried doing some digging around the net and the forums and I haven't been able to come up with much about this place, other than that it is an "international" school by name only. Is there anyone who currently works there or worked there recently who could shed some light on how the school is? |

My daughter went to a branch of this franchise in another city for kindergarten. The teachers seem to teach Kindergarten from about 9 a.m. to 2:30 with a lunch break. Then they do some administrative work for a short time before teaching some elementary institute-style classes for a few hours and they generally went home at 5 or 6 p.m. As I recall, each class had a Native Teacher and a Korean co-teacher. A lot of your good times at work or bad times at work will hinge on how well you and the co-teacher get along.
As for Seokcho, it's a nice enough place on the coast facing Japan. It's about a 3 or 4 hour trip back to Seoul. But it's a big enough small city that it should have everything you need basically. I'd say maybe you'd want to come to Seoul once a month to shop for ex-pat stuff in Itaewon or COSTCO.
Not the best job and not the worst. I'm quite sure you can get a job in Seoul or Busan without any problem. You just have to fly here on your own dime and start interviewing. Actually being here makes you a much more desireable candidate. |

It is a hagwon, just like every other FLI / kindy-elementary hagwon.
There is nothing "international" other than the name.
They are not "accredited" by anyone.
They are NOT Canadian. They do NOT follow any provincial curriculum.
They are just another language academy (hagwon); you sign on the dotted line and take the same chances as everyone else at every other hagwon.
(oh, and you won't get NHIC medical or NPS pension in spite of what your contract may or may not say).
