Hello, I have received a job in Daegu that begins at the end of February. I want to be as prepared as possible, but this is my first teaching job. I have a few questions.
1) How much contact should you have with the school before you leave? I haven't spoken to anyone affiliated with the exception of my recruiter since the interview in December. Should I buy a plane ticket now or should I wait for a go ahead (I am waiting for my visa at the moment, which should be back any day).
2) How many lesson plans should I have made up before I leave. I am teaching kindergarten and elementary. I have made some lesson plans, but I don't want to show up with too few.
Thanks guys. Any answers/tidbits of advice would be wonderful. |

I wouldn't bother turning up with elementary school lesson plans since you'll most likely have a textbook to teach from, and how could you know what the topics will be before you arrive?
Kindergarten stuff would be good though. Expect them to know nothing when you arrive; some very simple animal words might be a decent place to start, because you could give them some colouring in sheets with some words to trace until you figure out what the situation is going to be
I think the best person you could speak to before arriving would be the current foreign teacher you're replacing. They should be able to tell you what is expected of you. I guess you won't know which school you'll be at though? You don't usually find out until the last moment |
