Firstly, apologies as I am typing on a phone and I haven't slept in a few days but I would love to hear what you think of my esl-related story.
So, I had done a year in korea and three in china and returned home to England in 2011- I was pretty happy to be back although I did not find paid work I volunteered in a college for a year.
Despite being 'on the dole' (unemployment benefit) because I lived at home with no bills, no rent and very generous parents (I had been on holiday to the USA- flying around seven cities for a month, Amsterdam a couple of times and a friend's wedding in Italy, was eating out and spending lots if time in the pub, parties etc).
Life was great and I had met quite a lot of chinese students in the UK, dating and sleeping with many too).
Anyway, I ended up landing a job with nova in Tokyo, my documents were processing- waiting for the Coe, etc. It was the summer of 2012 and I had free tickets to some of the Olympic Games via a friend.
Friends in china had been nagging me to visit them and initially I thought I could do this while processing my documents en route to japan.
I later found out I had to remain in the uk to get my visa for japan- specialist in international humanities.
Ignoring common sense I went to china anyway knowing at some point I would have to be back in uk.
I went to shanghai first and after living in china for so long I felt it was a but pointless to be there on holiday and thought I may as well go home, enjoy the Olympics and have fun with my friends at home for my upcoming bday.
A friend I knew in Guangzhou suggested I go there.
We went to party the night I arrived with my stuff dropped at his place as he went to a hotel to go to a club.
At the end of the night I realised my phone was gone- yep a 800 pound iPhone 4S with all of my stuff on it, not insured and nothing backed up. China being such a familiar place I never considered travel insurance.
I was devastated and asked my friend to call it bit he was too pre occupied with a girl to care.
The next morning I woke up, knocked on his door to find he was gone.
So there I was, phone less and with only the clothes on my back, lost in a city I had only spent a few hours in.
I got a new phone hoping to catch him or the other guy I knew in the city on qq- he was online and ignored my messages and the other person I knew did not appear.
I stayed in different hotels waiting and hoping they would respond. I was getting increasingly fed up and thought it was better if I just went back to the uk.
A chinese girl I knew from the UK was gonna be in Guangzhou and she suggested meeting but by that time by best friend- a nz guy in Baotou suggested I go there.
I went there much to the dismay of the girl I knew because I had basically agreed to meet her.
He and his chinese wife's family were basically expecting a singing dancing white monkey type deal as they always had done when I lived here years previously.
I was not in the mood and just wanted to go home.
I was convinced to stay and enjoy my time with 'my best friend '
To cut a long story short- I met an ex gf who had a group of men beat the shit out of me when I said I wish I had just gone to japan as I planned to for work.
I managed to get back to his apartment bleeding and shaken up and in my drunken and concussed state felt like jumping off the roof- some holiday this had been!
My best friend and his wife said they had called the police and were going to help me.
They took me for a meal and packed me off to another of my friends while they dealed with the cops.
I asked them what was going to happen and they said 'there was no evidence'- an obvious lie.
I managed to contact one of the two people I knew in Guangzhou- he sent my stuff up minus my laptop and some other stuff and charged me ten times what it should have cost.
The stuff was sent to my friend's school address in Baotou- when I got there his female staff demanded I pay money if I wanted my stuff.
I refused and eventually got my stuff for free.
My friend later sent me a message saying 'after all we have done for you' but refused to explain what he wanted money for.
With my stuff I decided to go to hainan as I needed a break and then back to the uk just in time to pick up my visa and fly to Tokyo.
That china trip cost about five thousand pounds not including the phone laptop etc.
And I still then had to fly to Tokyo got my job.
I will leave that for now as there is more but I am aware I have rambled on.
Do you think this deserves an aware for biggest esl failure- I was not even there to teach , nor on my way to Japan and all if that happened.
The guy who vanished when my phone did has never surfaced
The guy who sent my stuff reckons the other guy stole my phone (obviously)
My ex gf told my 'best friend' I had said 'this would not have happened in japan' and that was justification for group assault on me
My 'best friend' - I was his best man at his wedding, god father to his kids and also named his kids prior to all this, also vanished after he was unable to get money from me to pick up my stuff
So yeh.. Any thoughts? I won't even go onto what happened in japan... Yet |

Biggest esl failure? Maybe, just biggest failure?
Your stories are interesting. I look forward to reading your fictional tale about your time in Tokyo. |

Did any of those friends nag you about paragraphing and line breaks? Your post just looks like a big wall of text. |

Writing style is VERY similar to the guy "ivyleager" who posted a thread just yesterday about being harassed in a store after an incident with a bag. |

Wow!
Fictional tale in Tokyo? I haven't even said what happened in Tokyo.
Will my arc card, visa and entry/exit stamps be enough proof?
And all of that did happen in china just prior to me having to go to japan for work.
Why not comment on it?
Everything I have said has been true... |

If the stories are true, you seem overly interested in our opinions of them. You intro'd your story in another thread "China saga forthcoming...." or something like that. Judging by the replies on THAT thread (midnight run thing) I don't know why you thought you'd get positive reinforcement here.
If you're for real, just share your story and observe the responses. If most ppl call you a liar, try to figure out why. Arguing is futile; most people on this board are a bit bitter but very intelligent.
I think you're telling the truth, but your writing style implies fiction. Like you made it up as you were typing. |

Cheers.
I am telling the truth.
Could you explain how my writing style makes it seem made up?
Like I said, I'm using a phone, maybe not in the best state of mind but absolutely telling the truth.
I'm not looking for any positive reinforcement, I'm just curious to see how people react. |

I never saw myself as a loser prior to this but I know how it looks and the people involved seemed to think they were 'doing me a favour' by inviting me back to china, as if it was somehow impossible to have a good time at home.
Yeh, I did not have a paid job but it did not stop me from having a great life owing to having parents that would support anything.... Although actually I did get paid to write essays for international students and tutor them...
Plus a paid job was sorted in Tokyo but instead of just going there directly I decided on a 'holiday' to china encouraged by the various people from my past - none of then connected- but all equally willing to 'f@@@ me over' at the drop of a hat.
I mentioned the meeting/dating chinese students not to show off but it was a reality of my life back in the uk- I remember the friend of the guy who left me stranded saying they had a theory I had been dating men. One look at the phone and they would have seen this was not the case.
It was no big issue to me but apparently it is impossible to have a good time and meet attractive women without being in china... And that's what I hear all the time about going to Asia to get action blah blah. |

I hear it all the time that people need a job and go back to Asia or whatever-
Wasn't the case for me going back to china as I had one in Tokyo and could not even go to Japan from there.
That alone was sheer stupidity. |

Let alone your phone you'd had since feb with all your photos from the states and generally stuff to prove you had a life in the uk, being stolen - 800 quid down the drain not to mention the case costing nearly 100 (lifeproof)
Being stranded the next day
Trying for several days to track down your 'friends ' in only the clothes you were wearing
Flying up to see your 'best friend'
Being assaulted by an ex- not one you had any feelings for but one who had attended your friend's wedding only because you paid for her tickets from Singapore
Finally getting your stuff minus your laptop- being overcharged for it and then having your friend's staff demand money to collect it
A great holiday just before you move to japan !!! |

Why do you care what a bunch of people on a message board, who live in a country you spent one year in about five years ago think? Seems kind of pointless to me. However, you did ask for our opinions and my would be that you're not very good at choosing friends. Either that, or you're one of those people that latches on to a group of people that don't really want you around, but you don't pick up on the clues they're dropping when you're with them, thus, they treat you like crap later when you just happen to be within a subway ride of where they live. Both those are just my opinions though. |

A phone that cost 800 quid?! Surely it had some kind of tracking device built into it for that price?
I didn't really follow the rest |

All the writing and convoluted thinking aside; my opinion is quite simple:
YOU CLEARLY HAVE A DRINKING PROBLEM. |
