Hi guys, first post here. I've just recently begun the process of working with a recruiter to find a job in Korea starting in the summer/fall of this year. I've thought about taking the plunge a couple times in the past but now seems like as good a time as any for me to commit to it since I was recently laid off and my lease ends soon so I'll be on month-to-month rent.
Anyway, I don't have the education/certification to teach here in my home state. My initial goal with teaching ESL in Korea is just to have a new experience/tabula rasa sort of thing, take the axe to my student loans and hopefully get on track to a career in teaching.
I'm sure there's gotta be a lot of people out there who were in similar circumstances. I'm interested in knowing what it was like making the transition from teaching ESL in Korea for a few years to moving back home and trying to start a career as a teacher. Is it feasible at all to think that some sort of teaching certificate/degree program leading to certification could be completed or at least started while in Korea? Has Korean ESL teaching experience translated to getting ahead in the teaching game back home for anyone, or is it more realistic to assume I should instead just be saving money to go back home and do an education degree somewhere? |
