Got a job in August, went to immigration and they put the E2 visa in my passport. I just renewed my passport, so the US Embassy voided my old passport (the one that has the visa in it).

Do I need to go to K-immigration and transfer my E2 visa into my new passport? Or can I just leave it and always travel with both passports?

You need to go to immigration and update your file (inform them of the change of your passport). It IS a legal requirement and you can be fined for NOT reporting the change (you are supposed to make the report within 14 days of receiving your new passport).

IF you have a valid multi-entry visa they MAY put a new stamp in your new passport. Usually, they do not.

For travel purposes, PROVIDED you have an ARC you do NOT need a visa to exit and re-enter Korea. Your ARC serves as proof of residence (for airline purposes) and re-entry permits are no longer required for ARC holders (since Dec 2010).

I've changed my passport twice since coming to Korea and I've never gone to immigration to report the change. I've left the country dozens of times and renewed my visa several times without any type of problem or fine. I got a new passport in December and when I went through immigration on my way out of Korea the immigration officer said "New passport?", and I responded "yes', got the stamp and went on my way.

That said, I might have just been lucky, ttompatz knows what's up.
