|
|
I'm looking into doing a MA in TESL. I have a few options, most of them are completely online but from accredited Universities in the US or Canada. I COULD do a hybrid course but it would require going back home more often than I could really afford.
So, the question:
"Do Korean universities accept online MA's if they are from actual Universities but done completely online?"
I'd especially like to hear from current professors at any universities here in Korea.
Thanks |

Not sure if this is helpful, but I did my bachelor's completely online. EPIK had absolutely no problem with it. I doubt they even check or care about it being online vs "real life".
For others who ask the standard FAQ:
Accredited or "pay-for degree"? -Yes it was fully accredited, highly recognizable school.
Why not a normal college? Because I worked four jobs and had to fit college between all of them if I was going to do college at all.
How much did I pay? $50k. It was a for-profit. I don't regret it at all and it benefited me in multiple ways. Because doing it put me into a career I absolutely love. I'd recommend it to anyone. |

I was surprised to discover many of the western professors at the universities here in Korea have BA Degrees. |

Yes I have heard that too but did not have much success when applying last year. I was told I needed a Masters Degree to secure a good job. Perhaps I will try again this year but who knows what will happen.
I have a 4 year degree but would like to up my qualifications and increase my opportunities. I plan to teach here for quite some time so I want to stay competitive.
Anyone teaching at a larger University with just a BA, info would be greatly appreciated. I'd love to teach at one while I pursue my MA. |

This pretty much sums it up.
There are a ton of schools out there offering degrees online. Some of them are accredited and are exactly the same as what you would receive in the classroom in their brick and mortar institution. Others leave something to be desired. |

Those people got in back when hiring standards were low. Now, you need 4 years prior university teaching experience to go along with the BA or 2 years university teaching experience plus an MA to get in. (Or if one has a PhD, no experience is needed.) |

I remember hearing something about some of the public schools are asking for more than a BA. |

I heard hagwons will be looking for applicants to have a Phd in the next 4-5 years.
For those of you lucky enough to currently be in full time kindy employment - make sure that you WEAR A SUIT every single day. That should help you bum/snot wipers, to hold onto your peanut paying gigs for a little while longer. |
