I just have a moment to post, so forgive the vagueness of this post.

I am wondering what the details of teaching while doing a Master's degree here are? Are the hours limited or just the pay? What about the location, would I only be able to teach at my university or could I do whatever the f*ck I want?

You can legally teach on a student if the following are applicable.

1. You have completed at least 6 months of the program ( all jobs, not just teaching)

2. Can complete all of the same requirements of a regular E2 (Criminal history, Drug screen...etc)

3. Have a BA from one of the accepted E2 countries.

4. Your get permission from both the international office at your university, AND your advisor or other head professor in the department.

5. A working contract


As far as rules, Masters and PhD students are allowed to work no more than 30 hours per week TOTAL during the semester, at no more than 2 different workplaces (ex. 20 hours at job A, 10 hours at job B) During summer/winter vacations, weekends, and holidays...working hours are unlimited.

Pay is not limited at all as far as immigration is concerned.

I just want to add that you can start work after your first semester on a D2. I started in March and began my first teaching job on the D visa in late June.

When it comes to the permission thing, there is a document you can download from the Hi Korea site. It has three main sections, one for your employer, one for your 지도교수 (although I just used a regular professor) and the international office.

Also if you work at a hagwon you will need a copy of their business license (사업자등록증) and institute registration (학원설립 운영등록증).

You will also need a medical and HIV test, which costs a bit.

Remember that any changes to your contract have to be reported to immigration. I worked a summer job that was then extended past the original end date to the end of 2013. Even though it was the same hagwon and on the same hours I still had to get everything again.
