Hat's off to all who aspire to a science-based and fact-based understanding of reality. Yesterday was the birthday of one of the most important thinkers in history, Charles Darwin. Pushing fairytales aside he helped introduce a new paradigm for explaining the world of biology - evolution by means of natural selection. Whereas, like so many scientific theories, it could have been disproved. Rather, with every passing year since 1859, the year of his publication of On the Origins odf Species, his theory has been confirmed (and reconfirmed) by the best scientists our planet processes. So much hard evidence is there now for evolution that scientists feel comfortable calling it a "fact".

So hats off to Charles Darwin, one of our species' most incisive thinkers.

OP you are correct. There are very few theories that have stood the test of time for over 150. In fact, very little in biology makes sense without understanding evolution. Hell, even the Vatican has thrown up its hands and accepted the fact. It's mind-blowing to think that that's how we got here. It really is. But facts are facts, and in a universe of a trillion stars it was probably bound to happen somewhere. And it did. It took billions of years, but here we are - 96% chimpanzee and hanging out on Daves. It's truly an incredible journey. And it's going to get more interesting. Until now we have adsvanced due to natural selection. But with the decoding of the genome we can now control our future evolution (if we chose that route). Now whether that's a good idea or not, it is undoubtedly fascinating.

The evolution game is going to get interesting.
