Are these positions as good as everyone claims?
I have a masters in a non tefl related field and wonder how feasible it would be obtain such a position?
Is the five months paid holiday just a rumour? |

Salaries vary, vacations vary, work hours vary, duties vary, atmospheres vary, co workers vary, bosses vary, class sizes vary.
Would you like to know more? |

I have a friend who is a certified teacher back in the US, has 3 years in Korea under his belt, and some sort of ESL certification I cant recall.
He gets the paid vacations..however, his salary (now going into his second year) is only 1.8 million.
I suppose for 12 hours a week and paid vacations or work that isnt bad, but he isnt allowed to get another job (even if asked, the uni would refuse)
Im surprised he continues wit that (and even more surprised the starting pay was so low)
As mentioned, it all varies by university, hiring season, need, credentials...etc etc |

I appreciate the info. How old is he?
I actually taught at a wonderland way back when and had a masters and no idea that university positions were available.
Korea was my first ever esl experience and so I was pretty clueless. |

If you are the guy who was beat up in China, and all the other stuff others brought up, I would suggest you have other things more important than ESL at 29 |

Uni semesters are 16 weeks spring- summer 16 weeks autumn-winter .. Many people working uni have no obligatory camps so .. Do the math(s)..(this often includes a 'make up missed classes week' so take off 2 more weeks)
1.8 is unusually low these days..
If you have a masters and are teaching esl in Korea- you should aim to have a uni job by your 2nd contract.. |

I had a masters and went to korea just after turning 23.
I had no clue about esl or anything.
A guy I knew from UNI was there and suggested it for me..
Seemed much better than the lame office job I was in at the time.
My gf did mention I could work at a uni if I finished my contract but I went along with the new guy who suggested quitting to screw the school (we were the only teachers there). |

I taught uni in china and enjoyed it but was fired from my second job and then returned to the uk and volunteered in a college.
No paid job but life was sweet, then got a job with nova in Tokyo but visited china first having my phone taken, being stranded, searching for my 'friend' in gz and buying a cheap phone to use qq (was charged more than I should have been), could not find him so flew up to Baotou on the invite of my 'best friend' got beaten by an ex and some random thugs she knew, charged ten times to send my stuff to Baotou (was only a few t shirts and shirts for the trip so not worth it), my 'best friend''s staff then demanded money for me to get it, then taking a holiday to Sanya and flying back to the uk, the trip costing five grand before needing to then go to Tokyo from the uk yada yada lol |
