Hi all,
I've posted before about how my job is terrible. I've decided to give one month notice next week.
I still want to teach overseas. I had a great experience the last time around, so I know that it is just this job and not necessarily every job/Korea boss who treats people like this.
My question is... Do I have to wait 8 months to come back to Korea? What if my boss cancels my visa? Can I come back right away to a new school?
My school may/may not give me a release letter. Can't count on it.
I don't know if I'll come back to Korea (China, Vietnam look good too). I'll keep an open mind though. I really love this place... just not the hagwon I am working at now.
Thanks! |

Without a LOR it's not possible until the expiry of your ARC card. So no you won't be able to return straight away without a LOR.
But as you mentioned other countries are an option, and IMO Korea has become less of an attractive location for Hagwon workers anyway. Longer hours, the same salary as 5 year ago and less demand. |

That doesn't tell us your situation. Are you over 6 months with your current school? If so, you might be able to negotiate something. Instead of leaving and instead of just giving a one month notice try talking with the school and see what can be done to get a letter of release you might have to work a little before leaving without pay. This is better than paying for airfare twice to get a new job.
You could get a job lined up 1 month after you want to leave and tell the school this. Tell the current school you need to leave in 3 weeks so you can get trained and ready at the new school. This gives the school a limit as to how much they can work you. |

Without a LOR, you will need new documents to apply for a new visa. If you already have those documents ready then you can get a new visa. If you set up a new job before you finish the current job then your new boss can apply for a new VIN the day after you leave. It will take 1 or 2 weeks to get the VIN, after which you go to Japan for a new visa (takes 2 days). You could probably find an employer that would be willing to negotiate accommodation while you wait for the VIN.
Do you trust your current employer to keep you around for the whole 30 days after you hand in your resignation? |
