I had an eating disorder in high school... often it comes with being a wrestler. I never had bulimia (eating, then puking)... I just never ate. 3 hours of wrestling practice a day on not eating really isn't too good. I had a few instances of collapsing from fatigue. I was existing on somewhere around 1000 calories a day... doable, but not too good when you are so active. I would also go to school the day of wrestling matches dressed in several layers of sweats and then chew on gum and spit into a bottle, just to drop the last few pounds. |

i had a freaky experience with my ever dieting coworker - we ordered dinner and then i went to the can only to hear the sounds of puking in the stall next to me...and then to see her brushing her teeth right after
it was creepy |

Considering how slim a woman can be and still be deemed to be fat in Korea by the masses who hold little girl bodies as the ideal, I'd say some sorts of eating disorders would be par for the course, whether through anorexia, starving, bulemia, whatever.
And I know a plastic surgeon here who is swamped with liposuction and nip and tuck requests.
It's sad, really. Women are already too thin to be healthy here. For all that's said about American obesity, they still live longer than Koreans!
I think the relatively recent popularity of beef and pork in the Korean diet is a mixed blessing. |

There are studies that show eating slightly less than normal will extend your life span. (this is like a 10-15% reduction in calories, and you still require full nutrients)
I think actually starving yourself is a bad idea, as is barfing up your lunch.
Eat well, exercise well. Problem solved. |

Korea is the only country that I know of where you can be in BK (Burger King) with 10 other folks in there at lunchtime, and you are the only one eating. (Everyone else is drinking coffee or coke.)
Welcome to Korea.

One of the Korean girls I know is always dieting and she is so tiny that when she turns sideways she almost disapears. The method she has adopted as of late is to wear a girdle that is too tight so that she literally can't eat much because then her underware gets even tighter and very painful. Keeps her eating habits in check. Scary! |
