I am teaching in 3 public schools on the south coast. My contract finishes on April 24th. People have told me that it's going to be hard to find any teaching jobs then, in either public schools or hagwons, especially as I want to be in a metropolitan city!

Is this true? Or do I stand a chance? I have done my time in the countryside. Now I need to move to the city.

A public school job around that time in a big city would be difficult, but not impossible.
However Hagwons hire all year round and some prefer to hire around April / May as they now know student number for the new school year.
Start contacting schools and recruiters now if you're heart is set on a specific city location.

Don't know... don't think your penance has been long enough...
However, if you sign the Kim Yuna petition... Laughing

Yes, ModernSeoul, I have already started looking for work. And as it turns out, Seoul is one of my preferred locations. The thing is that Dave's ESL Cafe hasn't really started advertising jobs for May yet. There was one job at YBM but it was split shifts with a 7 a.m. start and a 10 p.m. finish.

Basically, I chose a small city thinking it would be fun, like the last time I was in Korea, but here it's not very social. That's one of the most striking things about it.

So if I don't get to live in a metropolitan city, or very close to one, then I will leave Korea. Where I am currently, people, including the westerners are very self-contained. Actually, it's more like rural Japan than the Korea I remember.
We know that Koreans are irrationally patriotic, but signing that Kim Yuna petition might be great for my resume. I could use it in a job interview!

If hagwons hire year round then I should be safe. I've started applying to them anyway and I am starting to get a couple of replies.
