Just moved to SoKo and need a crash course in Seoul nightlife!
Was wondering if someone could break down the best spots for me.
Generally speaking I like to go to the American top 40 / hip hop clubs and a country bar / club, but I do like to switch it up from time to time and look to go to some of the electro clubs.
Anyways, appreciate all info! |

I'm generally really helpful when these threads pop up, but that kind of killed it for me. |

I agree. I usually like helping people, but sometimes it's just not worth the effort. |

I would also note, he/she [but it has to be a he, doesn't it?] used 'switch it up' in a non-ironic way.
SoKo? SoKo?! Because 'Korea' is, what? Too hard to pronounce? Not cool enough? What? |

Unless you end up at a tranny bar or a gay jimjilbang. |

Statistically speaking, about 10% of the population might not consider that such a bad thing. |

well there aren't really any country bars or clubs to speak of seeing how this is korea after all, but i highly recommend spending all your time at a place in itaewon called "hooker hill". now don't let the name scare you. even though it might not look it, it's the most happening place in korea. you might just have to go in a few establishments and ask for "the usual" before they will take you to the secret underground clubs.
i don't normally do this but i'll let you in on a huge secret. go to a place called Always Homme on hooker hill. if you buy a few of the people there some shots they will show you the hottest niteclub underneath the establishment that is full of the most beautiful women you will ever see. |

Don't let these jokers pull your chain.
If you're into top 40 and hip hop:
The Hongdae area is packed with small bar/clubs that play this kind of stuff. It's a younger area, mostly Korean university students and FOB ESL teachers who like cheap drinks and cheaper thrills. There are only two decent/large EDM clubs in Hongdae; M2 and Mansion, both which charge cover, have a dress code, and charge double for what most of the other bars in the area do for drinks. Mansion is a bit more upscale, M2 is rowdy and they have a solid DJ lineup. For hip hop the best bet is Club Naked...just be prepared to rub elbows with US Military. Ever since King Club and UN Club in Itaewon were put off-limits, the GI crowd has really pushed in there.
Itaewon is the international district, with a much more diverse crowd in terms of age/ethnicity. You can find upscale hip hop bars like Boombar (upscale, 20K cover, expensive drinks) small chic lounges like LUV and Globe, big, exclusive venues like Glam and Mute, rowdy basement EDM joints like B One, etc. A good place to start is the street behind the Hamilton Hotel. There are over 20 venues back there that cater to a variety of tastes.
The areas south of the river (Apgujeong, Cheongdam, Sinsa, Nonhyun) are usually collectively referred to as "Gangnam" which I'm sure you've probably already heard of . Venues down there tend to be overpriced, but there are some massive EDM venues. Octagon and Ellui are the heavyweights these days. Mass and Holic are also a good time. If you go there, bring plenty of cash, and dress STYLISH. I've seen plenty of slobs roll up with their friends swigging soju straight out of a bottle and get turned away.
Hopefully this stuff points you in the right direction. As far as country music goes, you're buggered. I don't even know where to begin on that one. |

Always Homme is a gay bar, located on Homo Hill, which is next to Hooker Hill. Either the guy is REALLY confused, or he's taking you for a ride.
Oh, and if you ever use the term SoKo again, I will contact every club in the city and have you blacklisted. |
