Hi everyone, I've come across what I imagine is a common problem for people applying for EPIK.

We (the missus and I) will earn more money if we can prove that we worked in Korea as teachers before - for 18 months in my case, and 2 years in hers. However, proving this is going to be difficult. She left her PS on bad terms (crazy co-t) so no letter from them (although if she's lucky she might just be able to get in contact with them), and the hagwon she was at before has folded. I'm still in contact with my most recent boss, but my boss from my first year sold up and moved to Seoul, so he may as well be on the moon.

Has anyone had this problem before? What's the best way for us to prove we worked as teachers before? It's worth pointing out we left Korea in November, so doing things in-country isn't really doable.

There is a Korean enjoyment certificate system whereby all former employers are obliged to give you a basic standard certificate with the company name, your title, when you started and when you finished. It does not contain any reference info. If they do not provide it within a short number of days they are liable for a 5 million won fine.

How interesting. So if we can simply send them an email asking for a proof of employment they're legally bound to send one?

Thanks for the info!

They are legally bound to provide one but they may not have to send it. They may ask you or a nominated person to go there and pick it up. Recently a uni posted one from pohang to busan for me though.
