Anybody know what the nightlife is like in Osan and Songtan?
I know its full of US military. Just wondering does that have any negative effect on the place, as a place for enjoyment.. |

I can't speak for Osan as I haven't really spent much time stomping the grounds there.
I have lived in Songtan and Pyeongtaek and been to the bars in front of both Osan AFB and Camp Humphreys. Both are replete with Juicy Bars, hookah pipes, and alcohol. I prefer to frequent the bars in front of Osan AFB just because I have a few friends there. The advantage to having both places a bus ride away is that there is a nice variety of food (two good Thai joints in front of Osan, and a nice pizza joint in front of Humphreys whose name escapes me). I also get my favorite kebabs on the strip in front of Osan.
It's also nice for me because there's a place in front of Osan that does hair like mine (I am mixed race, Black/Latina). That's a plus for me.
I've never really had any problems with people outside of a few dumb spats over political disagreements (it was with a Marine who was visiting from Japan). Otherwise, I've met some very nice fellas and a few nice ladies thereabouts. It ain't Hongdae or Itaewon or whatever, but it's nice to be able to get a beer without having to order food, as is common in Hofs. |

Cheers AfroBurrito.
Never encountered American military before. Osan doesn't seem to be the worst place. It's only 40 to 80 minutes away from Seoul, anyway. Not keen on the Juicy bars.
Do you know what the teacher community is like in Songtan? |

I have only met a few of them. I don't really hang out with other teachers. They're young. I say that as a woman in her late 30's, so perhaps you are also young, if so, I mean no harm by it. It's simply that once I reached a certain age I found myself a little less piqued by certain types of conversations or less slighted by the same means. It's less taxing and more engaging to remain at home with a bottle of wine and a book or a movie most nights.
There was a gathering of teachers at a Beer Sale in Pyeongtaek. I don't know if it still happens. And there are a few Facebook groups. You might look for them.
Otherwise, the community is rather small, and appears to be close-knit. People are people, so I have no doubt you would find them as helpful as you permit them to be.
Best of luck to you. |

It's not a bad place. A bit boring now since they kicked out the filipina juicy girls. Although I have met some Filipina teachers working part time at the bars. Great place to go eat. |
