Last year I was on a D10 visa when I started working at my curren hagwon. I worked there for a month before my boss got me an E2. My contract ended yesterday but I want to stay in Korea for another 2 months, not working. My visa is valid till the end of May. Would my boss be able to cancel my visa without me present at the immigration office?

As your contract has finished why not transfer back onto a D10 visa again and avoid the possible hassle?
It seems likely they could cancel it as your contract is up.

Not 100% sure but I believe both employer and employee have to be present to cancel an E2.

But whatever happens, immigration will send a text message to your cellphone about any changes.

Yes. He can notify immigration of your cessation of employment without your presence at immigration.

Would that have an effect on your status of sojourn = yes.
Are you legally required to report the change in your status after termination of employment = yes.
Can not doing so have an effect on your immigration file = yes.

options:
- take your 30 days (that you would get if you notify immigration) then leave.
- get a D10 (3-6 months extra allowed period of stay)
- leave within 14 days (no notification required) .
- Stay and not notify and take your chances.

.

I wouldn't want to risk the trouble you could be setting yourself up for. It's so easy to get a D10 that you might as well just do that. OR take a trip to Japan and then come back as a tourist.
