Could someone please take a look at the following sentences?
(a) Just as math has a basic vocabulary of symbols, so music’s vocabulary is made up of notes.
(b) Just as math has a basic vocabulary of symbols, so is music’s vocabulary made up of notes.
As you can see, they differ only in the position of "is". I would like to know if they are both grammatically correct or not. I thought I read on the net that even though (a) is grammatically correct (formal), native speakers often use (b). However, now that I want to find that reference again, I can't.
Any tips on this one will be appreciated.
Thanks |

Just as math's vocabulary is made up of symbols, so is music's vocabulary made up of notes.
You should either have matching possessives "has" or matching forms of "be". The sentences sound a little bit awkward. The placement of is doesn't matter really, I don't think. |

Thanks for the reply and for the good advice to make the forms the same.
It does sound better. |
