Hey, I just came to Korea w/out getting immunized. Totally slipped my mind. Now I may stay for a year cuz I'm getting a job. What should I do, my fellow Americans? and North Americans Very Happy ?

If anyone has gotten their shots here, please advise on how to, and what to get. Thanks much, everyone.

I'm not american but a kiwi who sounds like a canadian (long story).

There's a thread on this here

If you've had your childhood jabs (MMR polio etc.) you should be fine. Hep A and B are always good when traveling and you might need some boosters.

However I'm not a doctor so here's another thread on finding english speaking doctors.

Im gonna say something very controversial.Immunizations are overrated anyway. If you had the usual ones like Polio etc when young you should be fine. I came here with no shots. Went to Thailand/Malaysia/Singapore with no shots. Travelled all over Eastern Europe with no shots. I dont think I have anything.

Travelled through Thailand (last Nov/Dec) with shots and still picked up Typhoid. Nasty, nasty business... though mum insists that if I hadn't had the shots at all, I would have been a lot worse off.

I've been all over the place and never took any shots. Except for the flu shots.
Did get hep B but that was in AMERICA in 1990!
Only illness I've ever got from travelling was stomache trouble. The last time I went to SE Asia I went to the dr and got a months supple of meds and was fine the entire time.
Get the immunizations if you feel you need them but I think there are alot of us out there travelling that don't worry about it.

I think the shots are overrated as well. International travel clinics back home tend to over-exaggerate the risks. I got some shots here in Korea. THe hospital I went to didn't hvae any English Speaking Staff so I had to go with my director. It was quick and easy and very cheap! 5000won for each shot. Back home I would have paid something like $60 a pop.
