|
|
I am in Korea now. My contract will end next month. I am applying for jobs in Korea and elsewhere and I have suddenly hit an impasse. Employers ARE interested, even in Seoul.
But everyone wants me to use skype. And that's the problem. I have tried to download skype in Korea and it's proving tricky. Besides, I haven't used skype for a while.
Here are my questions:
1 I have a Korean card with visa on it. I can book hotels online. Can I use it to add credit to skype? I have 3.5 euros of skype credit but the Korean website wants more even though I will be using it to call skype to skype. I have tried and failed to add credit with this card, my U.K. card having expired.
2. I find that when I log in, I cannot access my old skype contacts, or add new ones. I cannot make calls. If you have had this problem, how did you solve it?
3. I am using my public school computer, and it won't let me download skype onto the desk top. I may have better luck at home. My old skype account was with China. |

I would guess that China has it's own Skype, that can only be accessed via its web?
I can't imagine that China would let Skype 'freely' into its market......? |

If they want you to use Skype, wont they be using Skype too? Therefore the call/video conference would be free? |

China's Skype is the same Skype as everywhere else on the planet. I've been using Skype in China since the beginning of 2013 and haven't had any problems with it.
The people wanting you to use Skype also have a Skype account. The free service on Skype is all you need for that. |

OP, may I assume that you're talking about the 'If you are in Korea, you can purchase Skype payable services through Daesung Skype according to the Telecommunications Business Act of Korea.' message and a rate table underneath whenever you visit skype.com in Korea?
You can give Daesung Group a big middle finger by using Google Chrome browser and a neat little app called ZenMate. It masks your IP, so you'll be connected directly to the 'proper' Skype.com where you download non-Korean version of Skype AND top up Skype Credit if necessary. (although you won't, for the type of calls you say you're expected to make) |

Actually the Daesung Skype isn't that big of a deal. It's jsut you have to pay a VAT whereas in Canada, you didn't. It' s an extra 10%. So, if you buy a man worth of time, you pay an ectra cheon won (1000 won). |

ZenMate works like a charm. Thanks for the work around. I was wondering how to ditch Daesung.
Actually, I tried a couple of other add-ons that mask your IP, but they didn't work and I'd always get the Daesung message regardless. |
