Has anybody ever thought about what your younger self would think of how you turned out if that were a possibility? Not just career-wise but overall situation. Or if you could meet your younger self, would you end up hating each other?

"What advice would you give the younger you?"

That is an interesting question.

How about it, guys?

If you could go back in time, what would you tell your younger self?

Me, I would tell him time is precious and limited and to use it wisely.

Thanks World Traveler, I thought this thread would die upon birth.

I would have told myself to study harder in college. I went to a good school and landed a really good job out of college but the industry kind of went bust about 3 years afterwards and I wish I had focused more on my studies in school. I was offered another job within the industry but I turned it down as I didn't even really enjoy it. This was with a company I had interned with throughout college so I thought I'd enjoy the work once I was making good money with them after college so I pretty much got tunnel vision and didn't explore other options.

Yeah, it's a pain in the ass to put all your eggs in one basket. I know this from experience too. Would your younger self have listened to you if you went back with a warning? Obviously, if your younger self knew it was you then probably yes.

I think he would of because I pretty much took the job because I knew it would be a big paycheck and I convinced myself I'd learn to love it once I got better at it over time. It was never "me" though and I was never completely comfortable doing it although I did get rather good at it.

Now after working in a few different countries and seeing what other fields are out there that I could have gotten involved in I wish I had branched out more. Oh well, I'm not unhappy with where I'm at, I just think I'd have done some things differently.

As we all do. Sounds like you're pretty happy with your situation though.

If I were to run into my younger self, I think he would ask me to buy him beer first. That's not a joke. Then, I would proceed to advise him of what to do or what not to do. I really believe he would listen attentively, probably asking what happened to me/him, assuming he believed me. Then, he would inquire about the beer.

I would tell myself not to deal with any of the stupidity of the women in order to get a date/girlfriend.

Wait till you get to Asia Zack and things will click for you big time!

And I know I also speak for countless others.........

I'd probably not have gone to uni at all, just got a trade and maybe never left Canada unless work or some urge made me want to. Then I'd have missed out on... not sure exactly.

I would tell myself to worry less and to understand that working abroad is not always easy with highs and lows.
If you want to make money, do your job and at least finish the contract.
Then if you really cannot stand your school, just do not sign a new contract.

Relax, and don't be so negative. Stop worrying about money! Things will be fine and more fun than expected. Love your parents but realize that they really don't know much about the world. Trust yourself and you will be fine. Don't worry about women too much specially about getting ladies. The less you worry about it, the more they will want you. Smile

Lay off the drinks. You are not as healthy as your friends and your body can not handle what they can handle. Now go get some exercise.

I wouldnt tell my younger self a thing.

Then he'd end up enjoying life just as I do, having learned & grown from stuff as it unfolds.

I'd say 'wow, you look so young' and then walk away. Even through the ups and downs my life has been pretty awesome up to this point.

1) I would say, "I know you're only sixteen, but get as much money together as you can, and get someone of legal age to bet on Buster Douglas to beat Tyson (at 32-1 odds)".

2) "Learn how to wrap your hands professionally, and don't throw big looping right hands. They're crowd pleasers, but your hand can't take the punishment."

3) "Don't study Social Work. You'll hate it"

4) "If you insist on going to Korea, start seriously studying the language in your first year."
