Say, for example, I had an ARC valid for 6 month.
Now say, hypothetically, I quit or get fired.
Would that ARC still be valid 6 months?
How long would it be before I had to turn in the ARC?
Then I have to leave Korea and turn in the ARC on the way out?

Just going through some rough times at work and curious about these details.
Thanks,

Depends if the school reports you no longer working to immigration. I suggest you get a new school lined up and negotiate a transfer.

That's a good suggestion, thanks.
Actually, I don't mind some time off to finish up my Masters.
I am sure they would report it to immigration if such termination happened.
So then, how long to turn in ARC and leave after they reported it to immigration?
Thanks,

14 days is was I've heard. However I think that can be extended up to 30.

IF you do nothing you are required to leave Korea within 14 days.

If you want to stay you must report your change of status (to immigration) within 14 days and they will give you up to 30 days to:
- find new employment and transfer your visa or
- change to a D10 (looking for work - good for up to 6 months) or
- leave Korea./

Thank you all,

If I change to a D10, 6 month visa, can I keep my ARC during that time?

My current contract (ARC validity date) goes up to the end of July, 2014
If I quit / get fired, I would not work again until August, 2014 (new school year).
Is there any reason I should ask for a "letter of release", or is that entirely a moot point since I wouldn't want to work again until after this contract (ARC validity) is over anyway.

Note: I just saw on another thread that I must have a LOR to get a D10. So, if my school fires me, then I need to get them to give me a LOR to change to D10? Or is just the fact that they inform immigration that I was terminated enough?

Thanks

To answer your first question. When you change to D10 you hand in your old ARC and pay to have a new one made. Usually it's ready in about 2 weeks. Ur ARC is your visa. It will be 100 000 in the stamps to change visas, 30 000 for a new arc, bring ur passport, old ARC, a new picture, fill out the change of visa and looking for work plan forms. Might also help to have a bank statement handy. On the looking for work form it asks you how much money you have. I never had to prove it but they could ask for proof.

If you finish your contract you don't need a LOR to switch to D10. If you quit get one, if they fire you I am not sure.
