Hi guys do you think it's possible to hand carry a 22 inch LCD monitor going back home? I plan to buy one here in Korea but I'm worried that I might not be able to carry it back home.

If you're buying it here just to take it home, I don't see the point. If you're buying it to use here and then later take home, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to take it home as long as you keep the box so it won't get broken in transit.
One of the things North Koreans bring back from Beijing by plane is large flat screen TVs. If they can do it, you should be able to.
And while the Chosun Ilbo crows about North Koreans clamoring for SKorean products, the North Koreans I've seen in photos from the Beijing airport all had Sony TVs. I guess they know quality when they see it.  |

Yes I will be using it here for awhile because I'm working here for about a year.
Honestly I'm planning to buy a PS4 and hook it up to a 22-24 inch LCD Monitor and then bring it back home after I end my contract.
Can you suggest how can I bring it back home after finishing my contract?
Can I just "Hand Carry" the Monitor and "Check in" my PS4 in the airport? What do you think guys? do you think it's possible? |

Check the brick before you buy to make sure it is dual voltage.
If it is only 250 VAC and you are going to North America the cost of a step-up (110 to 250 VAC) transformer is worth as much as the monitor.
If you are going elsewhere (where the voltage is 240 VAC then no problem. Save the box and packing material.

Only once in my life has an airline checked the weight of my carry on luggage, and it was a flight from the USA to India (so lots of people were packing as much crap as they could).
Assuming you're not going somewhere similar or flying some low budget Asian airline, I think you'll be fine (assuming the size of the bag is normal). |

Why would you take it back? Those things cost 100$ brand new. It will cost you 100$ to take it on the plane as an extra bag.
Sell it here for 50$ and buy a new one at home. |

Yes, you can. I have packed desktop computers and monitors in checked luggage many times in Asia (including as recently as Feb 2014).
It's not as though they are high value items any more and grabbing one out of your checked luggage is not nearly as easy as taking out (and stealing) your jewelry box or stashed money.
Just make sure it is packed well (as in clothes on both sides to protect from shock/impacts cracking the screen.

I've done this too. I brought back a 26" TV (which I used as a dual monitor for my laptop) in checked baggage not long ago and had no issues. I just wrapped it in clothes and it was fine. |

I found that the monitor in its box fits into one of my suitcases almost as if it was designed for it, so I will take it that way. Originally I was trying to get by with only one suitcase as I am going to Thailand first before Florida. But a family member won't let me ditch the second suitcase as I had planned as it has sentimental value. The monitor should be safe though, right?
Thanks also for the power info - that was something that I was going to ask about on the technology forum. I just looked at the specs and it says AC 100(not 110)-240V, so I think I am all set. |

Mine was a 23' monitor, in it's original box with all the packing material. But back then, the airlines still allowed two(2) free checked bags for international flights.
BTW, I've never had any power issues. All I had to do was buy the wall plug adapter. It's been working fine ever since. |
