|
|
My contract has been renewed so I need to get a new health check done. I'm in Seoul now, and thought I'd find a clinic Monday morning and get my tests done before heading back to Gyeongido in the afternoon. (I live in a small town so there's no approved clinic there.) Does anyone know of a list of clinics that are Gepik approved? I've done a google search and haven't found anything. If anyone knows of a list would you kindly post it. It would not only help me but plenty of others who are starting new contracts.
A question. If the cannibas test is now gone, and the HIV tests are now gone, what exactly are they testing for? Weren't they looking for three things in particular - HIV, cannibas and high blood pressure? Has the whole health check thing now been reduced to a test for high blood pressure? |

I think Koreans are more concerned with blood type than anything else. |

I don't know exactly where in Seoul, but I think if you go to any city, province, or university hospital to get it done, it should be approved. In other words, nothing Chinese oriented. Not really that much help to you, man. Sorry. But nobody else is trying for f**k's sake. |

Other drugs, cholesterol, blood glucose, generally wonky shit indicating poor health...
But is the HIV and cannabis testing really gone? I hadn't heard that.
I'm not sure if you're under the impression the blood test indicates blood pressure...that'd be tricky to pull off once it was outside your body
The blood pressure numbers come from the cuff (apparently a 'sphygmomanometer', how silly is that), which they still do, at least they did it to me a month ago. But they didn't do a chest x-ray or EKG, which I received in both my previous health tests (not sure if that was a change in policy or just the facility's choice, frankly I would have liked to get an EKG).
Is there some indicator of how much a health check at a given facility is going to cost? Previously I paid 20,000won, this recent one was 70,000won, for half as many tests~! (even the nurse was surprised by how much it added up to) |

I had my test done in Seoul this morning. It cost 74,000 won. It was a very modern clinic with clean facilities (and pretty nurses). So people don't need to be spending 120,000 won for the check up. It was part of the Hanaro chain of hospitals / clinics. I recommend it because I've been in some hospitals / clinics in Korea that fell very far below Western standards. But this place was good. |

Have your co-teacher help you find the nearest Public Health Office 버건소 (sp?) in the nearest town.
If you're nice, you're co-teacher will even help you find bus directions to help save on your own personal taxi costs.
You don't need to spend a fortune in Seoul to do this. |

There is a select list of hospitals and clinics that one must go to. You cannot just go to any health clinic. If it's not on the list immigration will reject it. |

Did you find the list on the web somewhere? |

I had my health check about two months ago and they took a chest x-ray...so it's still required/done somewhere. Couldn't tell ya what the cost was as my school covered it. |

The Public Health Office 버건소 (sp?) is the cheapest option. I had one done two years ago for about 30-40,000 at one of these. No need to go to a regular or private hospital where you'll spend 2 or 3 times as much.
Plus, they're government supported so there shouldn't be any conflict with the public school system.
I also went to my local one whenever I got sick or needed antibiotics for the flu. |

Say what? Your school paid for your health check up? Was it Gepik, Epik or Smoe school? Anyone else have their school pay for their check up? Given that it's mandatory they should. |

Sorry not a public, it was a hagwon. They have paid for both of my health checks so far. I agree though, if the school/gov't requires it then I think your school should be required to pay for it. |
