I want to get an older film camera. The best replica of the old style film cameras I've seen so far is the Canon FM3A which came out in 2001, and mimicks the old style film cameras. It's got everything I'm looking for, and I would pay anywhere between 300-600 depending on the condition (on Ebay).
Digital: I have a Canon 60D with some nice lenses, but now and again I miss film.
Any suggestions on places to look for used film cameras in Seoul? Based on your experiences looking for older, quality film cameras like the one I mentioned, is looking around the camera shops a waste of time? Thanks in advance for your advice. |

I wouldnt say looking round the camera shops is s a waste of time. Here in Busan, there are a lot of camera shops/electronics marts that still have that kind of thing - old slr's and the like.
Id say your biggest problem would be getting film and getting it developed? |

Decisions, decisions....what to get, what to buy.....
My Canon 60D is a nice camera, and I don't even know why I want a film camera. I suppose part of it is the film quality and part of it is the nostalgia.
I have a Canon G11 that is five years old now. I didn't get a chance to use it all that much the last few years, now I see that Canon has come out with the G16, and even come out with a newer "G" series - the G7 X. $800.00 for that one. I'm torn between upgrading my smaller G11 to a G7 X and forgetting about the film once and for all.
Or should I spend the $800.00 on a very nice Canon EOS 1 HV film rockstar camera and forget the new G7X?
ADVICE needed please... |

Youre not me, but if you were, id say can you really be bothered with setting up a dark room as a hobby or messing about trying to get films developed?
Then what will you do with all the contacts/photos etc? Youll just end up scanning them all into your computer at some point anyway or making a photo album which is bulky and no one will ever have the will to look at it - if theyre honest.
Buy a good camera, then decide on the style of photography you want to pursue/present. Learn how to do this with the light/angles/filters/lenses and then get stuck into photoshop to finish them off beofre printing.
Film is also a massive waste of money as you cant take multiple shots.
Youve also more chance of sharing your stuff online than in an art gallery. |
