So I saw tonight that 3 of the Costco stores will now open at 10 am instead of 8 as per "district requirement." Anyone here of this? This is crap. The only way Costco was even near tolerable was if you went first thing at 8am.

Yeah I saw this too. The only time I could go before was Saturday morning at 8:00 AM. By 10:00 AM it is a madhouse in there.
Sooo.. The district wants shoppers to suffer in intolerable crowds? This one is really strange.

Costco is a threat to Emart and Homeplus and the poor, poor mom and pop stores.

It seems somebody is attempting to drive Costco out of the country. What next? Only allowed to operate between 10:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays.

You snooze you lose. Probably this isn't affecting the Costco he goes to.

the ulsan branch hours are now 10-10, but whereas they used to close every second wednesday, they now are closing every second SUNDAY! all i assume due to city requirements. but to be fair, in regards to opening times, all the big stores are observing the same rule. however, i'm not sure about closing on sundays.

I saw the sign at my local Costco a couple of weeks ago.

Costco didn't always open at 8, did it? Wasn't that started as extended holiday hours and then just stayed on, I guess due to success?

No wonder SK can't get in on the TPP FTA, which will, if passed, include 40% of the world's economy.

And will that new IKEA store actually open?

So many of those smaller stores, and many restaurants, do their shopping at Costco. Yes, they benefit from Costco. That started with the black market stores but it has spread far and wide. You see Costco items for resale all over the place including in: conveniences stores, smaller grocers, and even in Homeplus. But they don't want consumers shopping at Costco.

Yes, Costco opened at 8 am and sometimes at 7 am around holidays.

It's an election year and Costco is a political football, especially in Seoul. Costco is building newer stores in Gyeonggi-do, and that seems to be a strategy to get most of the business out of Seoul. You can thank the current mayor of Seoul.
