I have an HP laptop that currently has a linux OP, ubuntu, installed. Has anyone run into any issues using this OP in Korea? I heard accessing online banking can be difficult, is it possible through ubuntu? I have Wine software, so any software I might need that is for windows I can run. |

I ran Ubuntu version 7 I think back in 2006. I never got banking (Kookmin nor Nonghyup) to work, nor any of the shopping sites.
Some Korean shopping sites work in browsers other than IE now, so I'm guessing they'd probably work in Linux as well.
I'm pretty sure you will not be getting any banking sites working. Every time my wife or I do any banking online, the machine has to download a half dozen "security" programs. Korea really, REALLY needs to stop whipping the virtually-dead activex horse. |

The Korean teacher who sits a few tables down from me might. She has a big plant on her desk that has a lavish ribbon draped around it (as though it won a pageant) that just reads "UBUNTU".
It's a daily source of puzzlement, but I refuse to ask her about it. It's nice to have a little mystery in your life. |

What about online banking with American banks such as Wells Fargo? Is it just the Korean ones that have the security mess? |
